Welcome, Tech Explorer!
You are about to earn your Chesapeake Public Schools Technology Pass.
Using school computers and the internet is a privilege, not a right. To keep this privilege, you need to know the rules of the road.
Remember: CPS can monitor everything you do on school devices, even deleted emails and history.
Rule #1: Respect & Digital Citizenship
- Be Kind: Never use bad language, bully, or threaten anyone online.
- Privacy: Don't post private info about yourself (like your home address) or others.
- Chat Wisely: You can only use chat/messaging in approved school apps.
- Report It: If you see something mean or weird, tell a teacher immediately.
Rule #2: Security & Filters
CPS uses filters to keep the network safe. Attempting to get around them is a major violation.
- No Proxies or VPNs: You are strictly forbidden from using proxies, VPNs, or "unblocker" sites to bypass the school filter.
- Hotspots: Do not use a personal hotspot or phone to get around school security.
- Secret Code: Never share your password with anyone.
- No Hacking: Never tamper with the system or try to "hack" anything inside or outside the school.
Rule #3: Integrity & Ownership
- Give Credit: If you use info from the internet or AI tools, you MUST cite it. Don't pretend it's yours.
- No Recordings: You cannot record teachers or students without permission.
- School Property: All files you create on school computers belong to the school, not you.
Rule #4: Personal Devices (PCDs)
Want to bring your own tablet or laptop?
- Permission First: You need approval from an administrator first.
- Your Risk: If it gets lost, stolen, or broken, the school is NOT responsible.
- Same Rules Apply: You cannot use your personal device to bypass filters or monitoring while at school.
